Hi YouTips4U: I just want to let you know that I love all your videos on YouTube. They have helped me so much. My question is: I am trying to make sure my skin is at its best, so I have started to drink more water. How do I know if I am drinking enough?
YouTips4u Ans.: Hi, that's a really good question. Being hydrated is so important, especially for good skin. It also aids the body by helping it digest more efficiently and it helps remove bacteria from the body. A good rule of thumb to know if you are drinking enough is to check your urine. If your urine is dark, or the odor strong, this may be an indication that your body doesn't have enough water and is conserving it. Remember you also get water when you eat fruits and vegetables which are 75%-95% water. If your urine is clear or very pale yellow, you're doing a good job of staying hydrated. However, if you are going to the bathroom more than once an hour, you're probably drinking more than your body can handle. Once your body is hydrated, no more moisture will get to the skin via internal means and the rest will just be excreted by your kidneys. Each person is different, so see what you body's needs are. A lot depends on your size, how much you exercise, whether you eat a lot of fiber (fiber soaks up water so your requirement may be a bit higher). So don't worry about the old recommendation of drinking 8 glasses of water a day as the rule; it's no longer thought to be because you get fluids from foods as well. Hope that helps!
