Amazing Benefits of Witch Hazel for Skin

Witch Hazel is a natural topical astringent which is made from the bark and leaves of Hamamelis virginiana, also known as the North American witch-hazel shrub.  It has long been recognized for it's medicinal properties to treat skin all kinds of skin afflictions and irritations including pimples, acne, poison ivy, bug bites, bruises, diaper rash, sunburn, undereye bags and more. It is a very popular natural cleanser and toner for the face helping to heal and shrink pimples and acne as well as unclog and shrink pores. It's the high concentration of tannins in witch hazel that make it such an excellent astringent for the skin.  Witch Hazel removes the excess oil and dirt that can settle on the skin and clog pores but it won't strip or dry out your skin. With regular use, witch hazel can help prevent pimples, blemishes, and black heads from forming. To learn more about this amazing natural astringent, please see my YouTube video: 16 Beauty Hacks - One Amazing Natural Product

No home should be without witch hazel because you will find so many uses for it. The brand I recommend is by T.N. Dickinson's because it is 100% Natural Witch Hazel with a very small amount of natural alcohol used as a preservative. Many of the brands you may find in the drugstore have isopropyl alcohol or synthetic alcohol in them and can irritate or dry skin. See you on YouTube!

Natural Air and Fabric Freshening Spray

Looking for a natural spray to clear the musty smell out of your carpets or fabrics after a long winter?  How about making your own Natural Spray Freshener with natural essential oils and natural antibacterial properties.  Here's a great recipe you can make in minutes:

1 cup water
2 tsp unflavored vodka (or you can use witch hazel)
1 tsp cornstarch
5 drops of essential oil of lemon or lavender (buy in natural food stores)

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until cornstarch is dissolved. Then pour into a clean dry spray bottle.

To use your new fresh spray simply spray 6-8 inches from the surface of upholstery or carpeting to freshen and eliminate odors.

The lemon scent has been shown to lift spirits and improve mood.  Also, this plant oil has natural antibacterial properties.  Vodka or witch hazel are two other germ fighters and help the mist evaporate faster.

Enjoy!

Is it More Fuel Efficient to Drive with the Air Conditioner on or the Windows Open?

Ever wonder whether it's more fuel efficient to drive with the air conditioner on in hot weather or drive with your windows open. While running the AC system uses fuel to circulate refrigerant and power the fans, driving with your windows open creates a drag on your car's aerodynamic ability. So which is more economical for your pocketbook? Well, studies found that at speeds below 55 mph, vehicles got the same mileage from their gasoline whether they drove with windows open and the AC off, or using the AC with windows closed. However, when driving above 55 mph, it was more economical to drive with the air conditioner on and your windows closed.

Hope you enjoyed this little energy tip!
