Air Drying Your Hair With Style
Are you trying to grow your hair long? Perhaps you just want your current length hair to look healthy and not dry, brittle and full of split ends. For healthier, shinier hair, it's important to limit the use of heat styling tools. Things like flat irons, straighteners, blow dryers and curling irons, can zap your hair of it's natural moisture and it's ability to retain moisture. This can lead to dry damaged hair that simply breaks off and can make growing and maintaining long hair quite a challenge, but you don't have to give up style because you want to air dry your hair. In my latest YouTube video, I show you how to embrace air drying your hair by creating an easy curly hair look using only your finger. That's right, all you need to make these easy pin curls is your own finger and some bobby pins. You will be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful you will look with curly hair and how healthy your hair will feel not having been attacked yet again by heat. You can also use the same technique to give volume and bounce to your hair if you have thin or straight hair. I have quite a few no-heat hairstyle videos for you on YouTube to make air drying your hair fun and pretty. I hope you'll watch them all. You can watch my latest curly hairstyle tutorial now to learn how to do easy curly hair with finger curls. xo Linda

How Hot Should I Use My Flat Iron/Hair Straightener
Hi Everybody, I have some advice for those of you who use a flat iron to straighten your hair. I get so many letters from viewers who have damaged their hair with a flat iron that I want to share some suggestions on how you can prevent this. Many people think that when selecting the temperature setting, the hotter the better when straightening their hair. This is not so. You really want to use the lowest heat setting you can to accomplish your style. You may need to trial and error this to see what heat setting works for you. For those of you who have kinky hair or coarse thick hair, you may benefit from a bit higher heat setting, but please avoid the top settings. If your flat iron has a temperature gauge, keep it around 250 degrees F to 300 degrees F. Remember not to leave it on your hair but to quickly run it through your hair. Each time you clamp your hair with a flat iron you are removing moisture from the hair shaft. Do as little of your hair as possible to achieve the look you want. Many times this means only doing the hair that frames your face or the outermost layer on top. Remember to use a conditioner after you shampoo and to use a heat protectant before you flat iron. You want to preserve the health of your hair because once it's damaged, it can take a long time to grow it out.

Can Aloe Vera be used on Your Scalp?
Question: Hi, can I use ALOE VERA to prevent dry scalp?
YouTips4U: Hi, aloe vera can be used as a remedy for dry scalp. I recommend using the gel from the plant itself, but you can purchase pure aloe vera gel in natural food stores. Massage onto your scalp and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes, then shampoo.

Simple Homemade Protein Treatment for Hair
Looking for a simple hair treatment rich in Vitamin E and protein to revitalize and strengthen your hair? I've got the perfect one for you and you can make it yourself at home. It's one of my favorites! Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
1/2 an Avocado
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Egg
Mash the avocado and scramble the egg. Mix in the other ingredients. Spread it throughout your hair, concentrating on the ends and the long hair. Twist your hair up in a bun and secure with a few bobby pins and cover your head with a shower cap to lock in warmth and help this treatment penetrate your hair.
Leave on for 20 minutes. Then rinse with cool water and following with a shampoo wash.
Your hair will love you!
If you want to intensify this treatment: soak a towel in warm water and wrap it around your shower cap with your hair in it. The extra warmth from the warm towel turn this treatment up a notch.
I hope you found this homemade recipe helpful and give it a try. Please be sure to click on the follow tab at the top of the screen to follow my blog because I have more homemade recipes to come.

Can You Help Me with My Dry Damaged Hair?
I have a question about my hair... the situation is like my hair is soo dry may be because i have used alot of different shampoos which doesnt even suit on my hair.. have colored my hair alot of times, and have so many chemicals in my hair.. i always see that there are so hydrated shampoos available but i dont know which one shud i use? as my hair is long but its like 2 faces on the bottom what can i do about it? and can u please tell me which shampoo is best for dry hair..?? and how to keep them smooth without dryness is there any good serum to use to keep it straight and smooth?
YouTips4U: Hi, I think you are right - your hair is dry and perhaps damaged from too much coloring and not using the right products for your hair type. I think you can repair it with the right hair products and also by discontinuing the repeated coloring and letting your hair rest. It's going to need special care for a while to get it back to normal. I suggest you purchase shampoo and conditioner for chemically treated hair or hair that has been colored and dry and damaged. Almost every shampoo line has one, so if you have a favorite take a look. If not, try Garnier Fructis (my favorite) or Pantene. Those two are great. While your hair is colored, used that type of shampoo. It will deposit moisture to your hair, helping the dryness and repairing some of the damage. Conditioning is extremely important and must be done after each shampoo. I love Garnier Fructis and Neutrogena Daily Triple Moisture.. Please take a look at my Deep Conditioning with Olive Oil Video on YouTube because I think you can really benefit from treatments with it. You can use it weekly while you are repairing your hair; then taper down to twice per month when it's healthy again. Definitely use a leave-in condition as well. I really like Organix Coconut Oil Serum, but I've also used Neutrogena and Garnier Fructis as well and they are good too. Good luck and keep me posted on how you're doing with your hair. Please write me back when you have time and explain to me what your color is like. If you are unhappy with it, maybe I can make a suggestion for you to bridge the gap while you wait for your hair to be healthy again and return back to it's natural color and texture. Don't despair in the meantime because it will get there; you'll just need to be extra gentle with it. Depending on the condition of your hair, you may need to take some of the length off to remove the dry damage so you can start fresh again.

Help for Damaged Hair
Hi there !
First off I would like to say that your hair is simply gorgeous ! A pure inspiration !
I watched some of your videos and they are definately one of the most helpful hair videos at youtube so far !
Anyway I'm a guy whos been growing his hair for almost an year now(11 months). My hair type is curly. Since a very young age I was fascinated by long hair on both guys and girls and last year I finally decided to let it grow. After a few months of growths 2-3 my hair got really curly and puffy and I started to straighten it with flat iron. I was straightening it everyday for months and months (maybe 2-3 months) until I actually realised that it was pure torture to the hair...and the worst thing of all was that I wasn's using any conditioner or heat protecting spray. When I completely stopped straightening my hair(late january-early february this year) I started to took a really good care of it.
Since then I've been conditioning it a lot with good conditioners, using oils and anti-split ends shampoo. Now my hair feels a lot better but maybe last month I found out that i have damaged ends. Some of them are just split, others brake away and there are some split ends which are kind of glued together and don't seem to split any further. I have cut some of them but I can't cut all of them because I have many at the back of my hair and my hair simply isn't long enough to do it myself. And the only way I can have completely healthy hair again without split ends is to chop off at least 2 inches(my hair now is about 6inches long)....and I definitely don't want to do that. However my hair doesn't look that bad and one would never know that I have split ends...
And I'm actually stuck...I just simply don't know what to do...
If I do a very small trim I won't eliminate all of the damaged ends cause some of them are on shorter hairs. Can I just let the damaged ends to break off and let the healthy new growth outnumber the amount of the damaged hair and do a trim a little bit later ?
I'm just so confused and mad at myself...if I haven't used that stupid flat iron my hair would be really healthy without any split ends....
I do want long healthy hair but It's takes soo long to grow it long enough and get out of this ridiculous awkward period, especially with curly hair like mine...
Anyway, I'll stop babbling...
Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Oh..and sorry for my bad English(I'm from small country in Europe) hope you can understand at least something....
Thanks a lot for your time and hope all is going well with you ;)
Bye !
YouTips4U: Hi, thanks so much for your very kind compliments on my videos and my hair! I'm so glad you found my videos helpful. And your English is very good; I understood every word :o)
I understand your situation and how you feel. Flat irons and too much heat in general can certainly damage hair over time, especially when you don't condition regularly to keep moisture in the hair shaft.
Don't beat yourself up by constantly looking back, just look forward to your new and healthier hair. Growing hair long is a bit of work, but I think worth it, as I'm sure you do as well. Your hair grows about 1/2 per month. So if you take good care of it, you will have 6 inches of new growth added in one year.
Now, you must find yourself a shampoo that it suitable for your hair type: normal, dry, oily. After shampooing you must use a conditioner. Please try Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner. It is my absolute favorite for dry damaged hair. Then I would like you to use a leave-in conditioner as well after you towel dry and before you style. Please check out my video on YouTube on How to Properly Wash Long Hair. It will save you much damage caused by tangling.
That should hopefully protect the hair that is not damaged from becoming damaged. Unfortunately, with so much of your hair's ends having split ends and breakage and dry, the only solution is to trim it. I know you don't want to part with too much of it, but I don't think you have to at this point. Just taking some off the bottom will help. Then as it grows down you can take some more off again at a later date. You probably won't be able to grow your full 6 inches in a year because you may have to have a few trims to clean up your damage, but you can still have long hair. Go to a salon and be very clear that you only want to take of a generous inch. An inch is a good amount and should remove a lot of the end damage. See how it looks and feels after that and take really good care of your ends with conditioners. Examine it in 2 months to see how it's doing. If you still have some damage at the ends; perhaps some of the shorter hairs have grown down a bit. Then go back to the salon and have her take no more than a dusting to 1/2 off, just to remove dry ends. Keep doing that until your hair looks healthy again. Please take a look at my Split Ends video for trimming your own split ends in between haircuts so you can stretch the time between cuts. I think you will find it very helpful.
Don't worry, your efforts will pay off and you will have beautiful long wavy hair and every man will be jealous and every woman will love it.
Good luck! I hope I was able to help.

How to Grow Your Hair Faster
Question: I was wondering if you have any tips on how to grow hair faster or make it healthy again? I usually straighten my hair all the time and by doing that I burnt off some hair. It's pretty short and I can cover it up when my hair is down. My mom got me a hair growth system and it seems to be working but slowly. It has gotten very dry and lifeless. I have stopped straightening my hair since may. Any other ideas? Thank you so much. You are so helpful!
YouTips4U: Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about that. Those straightening irons can be so damaging. I've heard from others who have had similar problems. Be sure to keep up a healthy, well balanced diet and include plenty of protein and foods high in vitamin B. A good diet is what contributes most to healthy strong hair and growth. If you don't already take a daily multivitamin, please do. Please take a look at my Youtips Forum Video on growing your hair faster and help from vitamin B for some additional tips.
You might want to give yourself a good trim and start fresh. Remove all the dead dry hair and then be very kind to your hair going forward. Choose a shampoo for your hair type (perhaps you may consider using one for damaged hair for now. Also always use a conditioner after you shampoo, and a leave-in conditioner before styling. I do recommend you do a deep conditioning treatment with olive oil every other week to combat your severe dryness (please check out my video on Youtube on this). That should help a lot with the loss of moisture and bring softness back to your hair.
I'm glad you have stopped using the straightener. I know it's hard to imagine now, but your hair will grow healthy again. Just remember it grows from the inside and that's why it's so important to keep up a healthy lifestyle. Be sure to get plenty of rest and regular exercise. All this promotes rejuvenation and blood flow to your scalp which will enhance hair growth. You may also want to massage your scalp frequently with your fingertips to enhance blood flow. This can contribute to hair growth. I like to use jojoba oil for massaging. Jojoba Oil has also been touted for being helpful for hair growth so it's definitely worth it.
Hope that helps!
