Your Choice - Taking Responsibility For Your Health
This week another of my good friends told me that they had a physical and the doctor recommended a colonoscopy. My friend is over 50 and has no hereditary risk factors for colon cancer. Being a YouTips4U subscriber, he had learned all about the risks of having a colonoscopy in my video entitled: Colonoscopy: What You Need To Know Risks and Side Effects and so he was not comfortable with having such an invasive test for a screening test. He knew he had other options and one of them is Cologuard. Cologuard is the latest technology in colon cancer screening and it is non-invasive and accurate. In my video: Cologuard Colon Cancer Screening Test | My Review and Experience, I share everything you need to know about this simple and effective non-invasive test for detecting cancer and precancer that uses advanced DNA technology to screen your stool sample for colon cancer and precancer and it also screens for blood in the stool. After watching that video and learning of my experience with using Cologuard, my friend decided that this was the test he wanted and asked the doctor about having Cologuard instead of a colonoscopy. Unfortunately, as happens all too often, the doctor told him a bunch of half truths about Cologuard, like it's not covered by insurance, and that colonoscopy is the gold standard, and sent my friend on his way. He did not inform my friend that according to the United States Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) he has other options for screening for colon cancer other than a colonoscopy that are just as effective at detecting colon cancer, each with their own positives and negatives which I discuss in my in-depth video entitled: Colon Cancer Screening: What You Need To Know About Colon Health, Colonoscopy, Cologuard | My Choice. My friend was pretty amazed at the lack of medical support for his desired choice which was Cologuard. When he got home he decided to be proactive about his healthcare and call Cologuard's 24-hour 800 number for information on how to go about ordering the test. They were extremely helpful and informative and told him the test would be 100% covered by his medical insurance just like a colonoscopy would be. They helped him fill out the necessary request form to give to his doctor and told him that once they received it the signed request form, they would ship the test to his home. Your doctor must order the Cologuard test for you and it gets shipped directly to your home.
If you encounter this very common situation with your healthcare provider, it may be necessary for you to be proactive if you wish to avoid colonoscopy and choose Cologuard as your screening method. As I explained in my video below, doctors have tremendous financial incentive to recommend colonoscopy and they are reluctant to recommend other screening methods because at a cost of approximately $3,000 per colonoscopy it's a very profitable business and they simply do not profit when you choose Cologuard. According to my research which you will learn about in my video below, a colonoscopy is not an effective screening test for the masses. It is fraught with risk to the patient and misses a lot of cancers and precancers. The test is only as good as the doctor who is visualizing your colon. Cologuard screens your entire colon and is the latest technology that detects both blood and DNA in your stool to look for cancers and precancers and has a 94% accuracy rate. It's simple and non-invasive! Kudos to my friend for being proactive about his health and selecting a test that was right for him. Don't miss my in-depth video below to learn everything you need to know about colon cancer and colon cancer screening tests. You will learn so much about this incredibly vital area of the human body. An area that must be protected for you to be healthy.
